Who knew taking an unexpected trip to Peru would catapult me into the life I truly desired. It marked my very first international trip and opened doors to connections, experiences, and personal growth beyond my imagination. This adventure not only revealed my physical strength but also unleashed the depth of my inner resilience, catalyzing a transformation that reverberated throughout my life.

Before Peru, I found myself in a place of perpetual sacrifice—divorced, wrestling with debt, and lacking a higher education. During those years of sacrifice a remarkable shift started to occur within myself and my life. I earned my bachelor’s degree, transitioned from retail to a corporate job, and finally regained control of my finances. To be honest, when I think back on that period in my life it was ridiculed with disbelief in myself and my capabilities. I was fortunate enough to have people in my life that saw something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. Their belief in me ushered me into the life I only imagined.

“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”—Christopher Reeve.

As fate would have it, I was led to move into a newly renovated apartment community akin to the drama-filled scenes of “Melrose Place,” set not in Los Angeles but in Houston, Texas—a perfect stage for my next chapter.

Then, a serendipitous proposition from my neighbor—hiking Machu Picchu—became a life-altering adventure. It was a challenge that forbade sabotage. Each obstacle on the Salkantay Trek & Inca Trail , from the altitude’s effects to grueling climbs and harsh weather, was a testament to resilience. Confronting these hurdles without self-sabotage transformed me, stripping away misconceptions and birthing my inner Indiana Jones.

Following this transformative journey, I embraced more adventures, fostering genuine connections and embracing new experiences. These steps led me to meet my husband and relocate to Reno, aligning with what truly brings me joy.

Through this odyssey, I learned to embrace challenges, chart my course, and live authentically. Each experience, especially my Peruvian journey, reinforced the belief that worthwhile pursuits are often arduous, compelling us to shape our destinies.
